Hello Church Family,
Acts 4:29–31 (ESV)
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
In Acts 3 and 4 we read about Peter and John being bold in their proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You would have thought that they would have been rewarded as we have been reading in the earlier chapters of Acts. Their reward for speaking the truth was to be arrested. What amazes me is what the believers did after Peter and John were arrested. They didn’t pray for God to smite their enemies. They didn’t pray for vengeance. They prayed for boldness. They wanted to be able to continue to speak the word of God boldly even during adversity.
We don’t have to worry about someone coming and arresting us because of speaking the word of God. But we are still called to be bold in our witness of Jesus Christ. We are called to speak truth in a world filled with lies and confusion. We are called to help people see that Jesus is the true guiding light in our lives. We may get called names or lose family or friends. We may think it isn’t worth shaking things up, but we must be willing to speak the truth in love. We must remember that we are talking about eternity. The world is constantly telling people that truth is relative, and you can decide what is truth or not. We must hold strong to the Bible and understand that all truth is based on the Word of God.
Where is God calling you to be bold in speaking the Word of God?
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jeremy
