Hello Church Family,
Based on 2026 data, love-related topics are among the most searched on the internet. People everywhere are looking for love and want to know what love means and how to find it. We are bombarded everyday with the world’s definition of love. We see daily images on tv, movies, social media, billboards, in newspapers and magazines about the world’s definition of love. The world defines love as temporary, based on your feelings and can be easily swayed. The world tells us that we should search for love until we find “true love” and it is probably just around the corner. It can be confusing to understand what love really means.
We have to go to God’s Word to truly understand the meaning of love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 gives us the perfect definition of love:
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
God’s standard of love is a high one. It is a standard that none of us can live up to on our own. But it is the true meaning of love. This definition of love can only be achieved through God’s help. God’s definition of love is a holy, set apart, non-selfish way of being. The Bible gives us 4 types of love that are part of our life.
- Agape – this is a sacrificial, divine love that only comes from God.
- Philia – this is a brotherly or friendship love. It’s a deep affection and friendship that you have.
- Storge – this is a familial love. It’s a natural affection and bond between family members.
- Eros – this is a romantic love. It’s romantic desire, physical attraction and passion.
We all experience each of these loves at some point in our lives. The only form of love we should seek is the agape love that comes from our heavenly Father. This is the love that is the most important in the world. It’s the only love that really matters. It is the only love that will never fail us.
May God’s Agape Love cover you and may you feel it everyday.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jeremy
