Fall is the time for harvest and we see signs of harvest everywhere. This year, especially, where everywhere we look we see apples that are loading down branches, begging to be picked. But, it didn’t happen overnight. We’ve watched those apples since last spring when they were no more than a promise with their beautiful blooms on the trees. We hoped they would survive any late freeze, lack of rain, or the fierce winds that can come in the spring. So, we waited, and now, these months later, we see the results of our patient waiting. Our waiting was made easier because we knew when the results would be revealed – the fall.
Our church is in the process of planting seeds in the form of new programs and I am excited to be part of that with the beginning of our new Wednesday night program for elementary kids, called Kids4Truth Club. We offer this to children in K-5th grade every Wednesday night from 6:30- 7:30. There will be music and games, but more importantly, a God-centered lesson where they will learn the basics of our Christian faith. The children will have an opportunity to earn awards as they learn. This is a brand new program and we are praying will reach our neighborhood with the good news of Christ.
I want to invite you to be part of the planting, so you can also be part of the harvest. As with planting anything new, it will take effort, participation and yes, even work. It will also take time. We may be ‘loaded down’ with kids right from the beginning, or we may start with just a few and grow. We don’t know. But Galatians 6:9 says: “Let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.” We don’t know exactly when we will see this harvest and reap the benefits of our planting. But, we do know that the sooner we plant, the sooner the harvest. The better we plant, the better the harvest.
So here we go! It may seem like a big undertaking- and it is. But it will be worth it. These are exciting times! We need to be patient and expect a bountiful harvest in God’s time.
