Prince of Peace

Prince of Peace

‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!’  We all have heard that many times and many of us have reason to believe it is so. We look forward to our kids coming home or seeing the grandkids or going to grandma’s house. We bake cookies and put up our tree and sing carols. We go to church and celebrate the birth of our Savior with a thankful heart.

That’s how Christmas should be.

But there are some who find Christmas almost more than they can bear because of the loneliness and isolation they feel. My heart hurts for them.

But here’s the good news. Christmas is God’s reminder that we are not alone! God gave us the first gift of Christmas in his son, Jesus. God sent his son to remind us that He loves us!  He sent him to rescue us from that isolation and loneliness. He came to give us hope, to forgive our sins, to give us a new life, to impart faith, to heal our broken hearts if only we will let Him, and to give us that peace that passes all understanding.

“For unto us a child is born.

Unto us a Son is given;

And the government shall be upon His shoulder.

And His name will be called

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father. Prince of Peace.”

(Isaiah 9:6)

This December the birthday of Jesus Christ will be celebrated all over the world. It will be celebrated in different ways, in many languages, by people of all races. For a few hours people will talk of peace on earth and good will toward men. People will exchange their gifts and talk about the Prince of Peace. They will talk about a night when those who sat in darkness would see a great light. The night God brought peace and light into the darkness and loneliness of our world.

If you are lonely this Christmas, welcome Christ, that first gift of Christmas, into your life. Christ can indeed bring peace to any situation. The most difficult circumstance, the loneliest of hearts, the deepest pain, -none of these is beyond Christ’s reach. He can calm your heart and mind.  No one brings peace and joy like Jesus.
