Hello Church Family,
This past Sunday we had the honor of celebrating two baptisms. Easter is such a great time to celebrate baptisms as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a reminder for all of us who call ourselves followers of Jesus Christ. Baptism is an important part of the life of a Christian. We read of Jesus’ example of being baptized in the Gospels.
Matthew 3:13–17 (ESV)
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality. It is a sign to the world that our lives are no longer our own but belong to Jesus Christ. We proclaim to the world what God has been doing in our life. We read in Matthew 28:19 that we are to go into all the world making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. By baptizing, we are fulfilling part of the Great Commission.
If you joined us for church this past Sunday hopefully it was a reminder of your baptism and helped you to reflect on the decision you made for Christ. If you haven’t been baptized, this upcoming Sunday is a chance for you to make that decision and publicly declare your faith in Jesus Christ. If you would like to be baptized, please respond to this email or call the office.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jeremy
