Epistle to RiverStone April 2, 2026

Hello Church Family,

We are towards the end of Holy Week and tomorrow is Good Friday. It may seem a strange thing to call the day that Jesus was crucified good. You would think we would call it anything but good. But if we look back at Isaiah we understand why we can call it Good Friday.

Isaiah 53:3–5 (ESV)
He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.

 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.

When Jesus went to the cross, he took all of our sin, pain, sorrows and griefs upon himself. Due to sin we are deserving of death. We are not worthy of going before God and being in His presence due to sin. But Jesus took all of that upon himself. Jesus who knew no sin became sin for us so that we could be reconciled back to the Father. Jesus was willing to freely give his life for each of us.

As we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus, it is a moment to be silent and in awe of God. We should be in awe of the gift of Salvation that comes through Jesus Christ alone. We should be in awe that Jesus was willing to take our sin onto himself and to offer forgiveness of our sins. We can look at the cross and reflect on what it means for us.

As we reflect we can also remember that Sunday’s coming. The grave that is closed on Friday will be empty on Sunday. We get to celebrate the greatest gift and miracle of the world. Jesus Christ died for our sins but didn’t stay dead. He rose from the dead so that we can have eternal life with him.

Celebrate because JESUS IS ALIVE!!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Jeremy
