Hello Church Family,
This past Sunday we were in Acts 6. It is the chapter where the first deacons of the Church were named. The term Deacon translates to servant or one who serves. Service is to be part of the life of a follower of Jesus Christ. We have been given gifts by God and are to use those for His glory. We’re not all called to do the same thing but we are all called to do something. We serve out of an overflow of the love, forgiveness, salvation and freedom we have been given from the Father. We also serve because we look at the example of Jesus and see that he came to serve. If the one who has existed since before time began believes serving is important, what is stopping us?
1 Peter 4:7–11 (ESV)
7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. 8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
