Hello Church Family,
Genesis 3:19 (ESV)
“… for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”
Yesterday was Ash Wednesday and I had the privilege of applying ashes to members of our church and community. As I said the above phrase I was reminded of what this season of Lent means. The season of Lent is a time of repentance. A time to ask for forgiveness. A time of fasting. None of us are perfect. We all have things we have to ask God to forgive us of or people that we need to forgive or ask their forgiveness.
During this time of repentance, some people will give up things during the Lenten Season. If you are wanting to give something up but don’t know what you would want to give up, think of the reason for giving something up. It should be something that has caused a distraction from your relationship with Jesus. Something that by giving it up you can use that time to grow to know Jesus better. We all have the same number of hours in the day, but we each get to choose how we use those hours.
How will you use your time during the season of Lent? Will you use it to grow closer to Jesus Christ and to strengthen your relationship with him? Will you use it to seek forgiveness? Will you use it to turn from your sins and to turn toward God?
My prayer for all of us is that we use the season of Lent to spend more time in prayer, more time reading God’s Word, more time studying God’s Word, more time building stronger relationships, more time caring for each other, more time caring for our community, more time encouraging those around us, more time being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.
May this season of Lent bring you closer to the One who created you.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jeremy
