“A true follower of Jesus never becomes accustomed to the sound of footsteps headed for hell.”
My second in the series Faithful Christ Follower brings us the quality of a “worshipper”. That old Great Commandment comes to the fore, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart…” It’s the heart of the Christ Follower that is rightly understood to at the core of our discipleship. Every decision, every action, every moment of faithfulness, and every incident of disobedience is shaped by our heart.
Biblically, our affections are located in our heart. Jesus said, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.” Our time with God our Father in prayer, meditation, reflection, reading of His Word, and fellowship with His children are reflect our love for Him over other things and relationships that would otherwise distract us. As we invest in these and other Christian spiritual disciplines, we are storing up the good whose only source is the Holy Spirit.
Worship reflects a heart surrendered to Him. The psalmists calls out, “Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the sheep of His pasture.” (Ps. 95:6) The source of true worship is our heart. Which is why Proverbs 4:23 instructs us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
What is the disposition of your heart? We need to be diligent and aware of anything that impinges on God’s rightful claim to our hearts, and therefore, our lives. Worship Him and thrive as a Christ Follower! Love ,Follow, and Serve Jesus and seek to Thrive in ’25!!
