Hello Church Family,
Luke 24:32
They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on theroad, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”
So many times when we think of Jesus in the Bible we go just to the New Testament. We look there first because we are looking at Jesus being physically here on earth. We see his birth, death, resurrection and the ministry that occurred after he ascended to heaven. We don’t typically look for Jesus in the Old Testament.
The question we need to ask ourselves if we are looking for Jesus in the Bible is “Who is Jesus?” How we answer that question makes a difference on how we read the Bible. If we believe that Jesus is eternal and exists outside of space and time and has existed before time began, we see Jesus throughout the Bible. We sometimes want to limit Jesus to a certain time and place because it is comfortable for us. But we must expand our view of Jesus. We must acknowledge something that can be difficult. Jesus existed outside of space and time before he came to earth to dwell inside of space and time for about 30 years. We also need to be willing to acknowledge that Jesus went back to being outside of space and time when he ascended back to heaven.
As you read through the Bible take some time to see Jesus throughout each book of the Bible both Old and New Testament. Take some time to pray through how has God been working the story of salvation and redemption throughout the Bible? What part is God asking us to take in the story of redemption? How are we sharing this story of redemption with our friends, family, neighbors and the world?
I pray that you have new eyes to see Jesus at work and understand what that work means for each of us.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jeremy
