Transformed by the Light
We open our Lenten series, Journey to the Cross, with one of Scripture's most dramatic turnarounds. Saul was a zealous Pharisee who dragged followers of "the Way" from their homes and into prison, until a light from heaven stopped him on the road to Damascus and he met the risen Jesus face to face. God then sent a fearful but obedient Ananias to pray over the very man who had come to arrest him, and Saul was healed, baptized, and immediately began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God. The persecutor became the persecuted, and eventually the apostle Paul, whose letters still carry the gospel to the nations. Only God can transform a life that completely, and the same invitation to turn from sin and toward Christ is open today.
