Hello Church Family,
This past Sunday I spoke about the spiritual discipline of study. I wanted to share some resources that may help you in your goal to study God’s Word.
Richard Foster says that study involves four steps.
- Repetition
- We learn by constantly repeating things over and over again.
- Concentration
- We have to focus on what we are studying.
- We have to concentrate on the material as we look into God’s Word.
- Comprehension
- John 8:31–32 (ESV)
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
- It’s not enough to just read God’s Word. We have to understand God’s Word.
- The truth of God’s Word is what will set us free.
- Reflection
- We take time to reflect on what we just learned.
- We ask God how does this apply to my life?
- We take time to meditate on God’s Word.
