Hello Church Family,
This week we tackled a word that carries a lot of baggage — submission. It’s been misused and abused, but Scripture paints a very different picture than the world does.
We looked at 1 Peter 2:13–25, Colossians 3:18–25, and 1 Peter 5:1–7 in full context, and discovered that submission isn’t about yielding to power or being told what to do. It’s about looking out for the good of others before ourselves — because everything we do is for the glory of God.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” — Philippians 2:3–4
The clearest picture of this came from John 13, where Jesus — the King of Kings — took a towel and a basin and washed His disciples’ feet. He, who had every right to be served, chose to serve.
“If serving is below you, then leadership is beyond you.”
We submit not because someone demands it, but as an act of obedience to God, following the example Christ set for us.
Where is God inviting you to look out for someone else’s interests before your own — at home, at work, or in your community?
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jeremy
