The Beginning Journey

Every hero has an origin story, and Jesus began his public ministry by spending forty days fasting and praying in the wilderness. At his weakest point physically, he faced three temptations from Satan and answered each one with Scripture, even when the enemy twisted Scripture back at him. Temptation often finds us the same way — when we are tired, hungry, and not thinking clearly — which is why we need God's Word stored in our hearts, as Psalm 119 describes. After John's arrest, Jesus moved to Capernaum, fulfilling Isaiah's promise that a great light would dawn on people dwelling in darkness. From there his message was simple and urgent: repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. The question he still asks is how we will answer that call.
