Called to Go Out
Jesus called twelve very different men — fishermen, a tax collector, a zealot — and what they shared was a willingness to say yes and follow. He sent them out with no money and no extra provisions to proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is near, to heal the sick, and to depend on the hospitality of strangers. They were not called to sit comfortably and watch others serve; they were called to go. Jesus was honest about the cost, warning them they would be sent out as sheep among wolves and would face courts, hostility, and even betrayal by family. Yet he promised the Holy Spirit would speak through them and that he has overcome the world, so we never travel this road alone.
