Epistle to RiverStone August 13, 2026

Hello Church Family,

While I was at Asbury Seminary, I was able to take multiple courses on leadership. One of the things I learned during those courses was the idea of servant leadership. Robert K. Greenleaf wrote a book all about servant leadership. He uses the example of Jesus and stories from the Bible to help leaders understand a new way of leading. We are called to lead by serving.

We read Jesus’ words in Mark 10:

Mark 10:42–45 (ESV)

42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus who is fully God came to this earth to reconcile us back to the Father and save us from our sins. He shares with the disciples the importance of serving. Jesus set an example of what it means to serve. We should all live lives of service. We are called to be willing to serve all those around us.

How is God calling you to serve? Is there a need in the church or in our community that you see that God is calling you to?

However God is calling and whatever He calls you to, be one who serves.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Jeremy
